Your life is falling apart and hardly anyone cares.
The world doesn’t take notice of your wishes.
The daily grind chews on your happiness.
It’s cold and dark outside your comfort zone.
Men behind the scene dilute the fruits of your hard work.
Freedom and opportunity slip into legend, just terrorism remains real.
Is it possible to live an inspiring life despite all these crises going on? Yes, it is! Even better: the answer lies within you. You can create your dream life inside out and nobody can stop you. Why haven’t you yet? Because you were missing the energy and guidance and this is where inspiration comes in. Living an inspired life starts with you, live it now, and live it to the fullest!
Great changes are ahead of you, fundamental changes, if you decide to lead an inspired life. Instead of being pushed around by situations and people, you will create beautiful experiences and attract good souls. Modern life is stressful and taxing, it’s a black hole that sucks your time and energy. It’s a rat race. You need to get out now! What’s the point if you sacrifice your health to make money and in return spend (more) money to recuperate your health? What’s the point if your worries and fears of tomorrow prevent you from enjoying the present? You will end up living as though you are never going to die, and die having not really lived. How to break out?
What is inspiration really? Here is an excerpt of Webster’s definition of spirit:
- An animating or vital principle held to give life to physical organisms.
- A temper or disposition of mind or outlook especially when vigorous or animated (being in high spirits).
- The immaterial intelligent or sentient part of a person.
- The activating or essential principle influencing a person (acted in a spirit of helpfulness), an inclination, impulse, or tendency of a specified kind, a mood.
- A special attitude or frame of mind (the money-making spirit was for a time driven back — J. A. Froude), a feeling, quality, or disposition characterizing something (undertaken in a spirit of fun).
Because it defies a clear definition, we can stick many labels to spirit, just like to love and happiness. Confusion results. The remedy: go back to the basics. Most of all, spirit has to do with being alive. In many languages spirit also means breath. The spirit is the life-breath that brought the first human being to life (according to Genesis 2.7). It’s the famous Chi that keeps the body young and in good health far into old age.
The spirit is felt in the heart, the place where we feel love and happiness too. And it’s the heart with which we win wars.
Spirit keeps you living, dreaming, thinking, yearning, and acting. It’s the source of all mental energies, drives, desires, motivations, and aspirations. And this is what in-spiration means: to invite the spirit to help with your life. It implies connecting to that vitalizing, inner power that has galvanized others to raise civilizations, conquer the world, climb the highest mountains, dive into the deepest seas, build the Hanging Gardens, compose the Ode to Joy, paint the Mona Lisa, and fight for freedom and equality. This spirit is yours here and now!
Don’t mistake inspiration for motivation. Motivation is all about psyching up. People motivate themselves to carry on doing what they are used to – jogging the rat race. Motivation can be dangerous. Sometimes motivation keeps you doing things you don’t really care about, that other people want you to do, things that can be a good idea, but do not renew your life.
Fear motivates soldiers to keep fighting, but they are inspired to sacrifice their lives for their buddies. Take the famous battle at Thermopylae for example, where 7,000 Greek held back an army of 150,000 Persians for three days. Money and fear motivated the Persian soldiers, but the Greek were inspired to protect their freedom and families. A world of difference!
Motivation should follow inspiration. Why? Motivated, you will be drawn to do things that feel the best, but may not even be productive. It’s like a medicine you keep taking to hide your headache. Inspiration, on the other hand, takes your life to new levels. Inspired people don’t feel stressed, however hard they work. Being in the spirit feels better than being just motivated, right? If it doesn’t feel all good, you are not yet there. Keep pressing on until you are inspired. Live with esprit!
We fear change. Fear is the handbrake of social and personal evolution. This is no joke. Anxiety disorders are the most common illnesses in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults above age 18 – that’s 18% of the population (source: National Institute of Mental Health). Almost 50% of people diagnosed with anxiety disorder are also diagnosed with depression.
Subconsciously, we fear inspiration, because it leads to adjustment, change, and transformation. We kinda hide from it. How to overcome the fear of change? Face your fears and trust the spirit inside you!
Are you sleepwalking at work? Wish to invite adventure into your life? Are you a prisoner of your own life? Do you yearn for more freedom and opportunities? Does your time seem to run out? Do you wish you got more love or could love more? Craving for more appreciation? Do you sometimes call yourself a loser? Dreaded Monday mornings? Still figuring out how to live life to the fullest? To solve all these challenges, you need to do just one thing: get inspired and pursue your dream. That will change your state of mind and life will be, once again, as mysterious and miraculous as it was when you were a child.
How can we overcome anxiety and depression, face all the bad news head on? What may work for one person may not work for another. While religious faith may give you hope to keep you going, the best way is to acknowledge challenges and come up with the best plan to battle it out. Some trust science, others again depend on friends and families. Run whatever mental engine works for you best, just make sure you fuel it with inspiration, your mental kerosene. Many have gone before you and done this change of mind and attitude. They agree in one thing: only the first steps are tough. Know that you are not alone.
Inspiration aims high: at honor and glory. Inspiration brings out the best in us, it makes us do things we never thought possible. It’s a personal affair though. We should surround ourselves with things and people that inspire us, instead of situations and people that drag us down. We feel inspired by ordinary people achieving great things and making a real difference in the lives of others, like this Afghan lady. Fighting against all odds inspires us too. Have you watched the Last Samurai? That’s what I’m talking about. Also children inspire. Check out this report about prisons that allow inmates to keep their kids. My first thought: poor kids, but then I remembered that kids are happy in any environment – because they are always inspired. Have you ever seen a picture of children playing happily in slums? That’s what I’m talking about. Children bring out the best in us.
How to lead an inspirational life and become an inspiration for others? Show them who you are! Show them your beauty! Shine bright like a diamond! Demonstrate the importance of being true to yourself.
Just as a butterfly has to break out of its cocoon to realize that it can fly, so we need to break free and spread our wings. The key is to be ourselves and fulfill our hearts desires, to live our dreams.
Sync daily with your inner purpose. If you’re not getting all the happiness that you deserve, it’s time to realign. If others push you around, it’s time to realign. If you feel lost, it’s time to realign. Heart realignment is not that complicated. All you need to do is reach inwards and listen to your heart. Meditate and learn to differentiate between your heart’s desire and acquired wishes and wants. This is the secret of happiness.
Fulfilling wishes satisfies, fulfilling your dream make you happy. See the difference? What is that one thing that lights you up? What cheers you up for good? Have a feel of it. Bathe in it. Feel it as it trickles down your spine. Most of all: never let it slip away again. This too is inspiration.
Live instead of being lived! Create the life you want to live step by step. Don’t know where to start? Use the Problem Tree. Begin by ignoring the circumstances and depending on your attitude. Define and imagine the purpose of your life, then plan for it.
When you have your plan in place, don’t be afraid to make the right choices that will move you towards your goal. Above all, start acting now! Now is the only time you will ever have, you can ever do anything.
