A romance starts like a baby. It comes out of nowhere. Once alive, it claims all our attention. In a miraculous way, it gives rise to the question how we managed to be happy before it existed.
As all other babies, it needs to be fed and protected. For a long time, our romance is selfish and doesn’t give a damn about us. It doesn’t listen, wakes us up late at night and cries without apparent reason. Well, we knew it wouldn’t be a walk in the park, didn’t we? But it’s so sweet and funny – how can we get angry?
After a year or so, our romance has grown into a relationship and we can teach it to walk and talk. Once on its feet, we need to watch out that it doesn’t do anything stupid or break our china.
If our relationship survives the toddler years and enters adolescence we need to teach it some serious stuff, since life isn’t always a bed of roses. That’s the time when parents become funny. 😉
When it’s out of puberty and all grown up, our relationship will turn into a partnership. Finally, it can take care of itself. The time has arrived when our relationship returns favors. Hopefully, it’s blessed with many more years. Just keep in mind that the day will come when you need to let it go.
